25/11/09 - CID Restructure

The consultation process for the current CID restructure is continuing and is expected to be complete in mid-December. Overall the proposed structure is reasonably positive with a net increase in SW staff and a high degree of matching. However it remains a geographically split picture with a surplus of posts in the Central Belt and a net reduction in the North offices.

This is a key issue for the working group and Unison reps are putting forward arguments to mitigate the impact on the North by moving some of the surplus posts to the North offices, and also increasing the level of flexibility to allow remote working for appropriate projects. As the final programme for SR10 is not yet finalised our view is that it is premature to cast the structure in stone, effectively displacing staff, when the requirements for certain classes of employee are not yet fixed.

As a result of the working group's challenges, SW are reviewing the staffing figures and there will be further clarification of this after the next consultation meeting. If you have any queries regarding this restructure please contact David Wilkinson or Steve Gordon.
